Catalonia Institute for Energy Research

Established in 2008, IREC is a research centre focussed on developing new technologies for a sustainable use of energy. The Electrical Engineering Area has been involved in a number of research projects covering the control of wind farms and wind turbines for grid integrations, micro-grids, energy storage systems, power converters. The Thermal Energy and Building Performance Area aims to improve bioclimatic design, the implementation of innovative energy efficiency measures and the integration of energy systems from renewable sources. The research at IREC has been always in close contact with local industries in order to orient its research towards the real needs in energy advances demanded by the society.
