This report presents the progress of WP1 “Control Strategies for Distributed Power Generation” where four PhD researchers have been working since September/October 2016 on their individual research projects but at the same time have been using exchange possibilities and meetings as much as possible to make the collaboration within WP1 a strong factor contributing to its success.

This report presents the progress of WP2 “Control Strategies for ESS” where three PhD researchers have been working for slightly over a year on their individual research projects but at the same time have been benefiting from exchange possibilities and meetings as much as possible to make the collaboration within WP2 a strong factor contributing to its success.

This report summarises the progress of WP3 “Control Strategies for RES Integration” from ESR recruitment until M23 of the Action. WP3 comprises three IRPs carried out at IREC and UGA, and the ESRs are working hard to complete and achieve all expected objectives within their tasks as well as maximize their impact. The progress of WP3 up to now can be considered as satisfactory.
Progress and impact of each IRP is presented, as well as networking and dissemination advances within this WP.

WP4 deals with the design and the test of new advanced functionalities for monitoring and controlling smart grids. Three of the four research projects began between M8 and M10 of the action and have been ongoing for slightly over a year. The first models, mathematical frameworks, and tools required to design these new functionalities have been proposed and tested. Some further improvements have already been identified.
At the WP level, the PhD fellows involved in the research projects have collaborated to define a short list of possible common test cases. The objective is to use a unique test case to integrate all the methods and models developed individually in each project and, therefore, to facilitate the dissemination of the final results.

The general objective of INCITE is to propose innovative solutions for the challenging work of controlling and designing the future electrical networks while providing the Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) with deep knowledge in control, optimisation, power electronics, and power systems, and a complete view of the real needs of the main actors in the smart-grids sector.
The different Individual Research Projects (IRPs) are organized in four different Work Packages (WPs), each focusing on different aspects the control of smart-grids. WP5 aims to bring together all results produced within the network, so that the complex interactions among the different parts of a smart grid are taken into account.
This report aims to introduce and present the ongoing efforts within the action among both ESRs and WPs in order to ensure promising collaborations, interactions and comparison of results to maximize the impact of the INCITE results.

This report brings together the abstracts of the scientific presentations that took place during the first INCITE Workshop, which was organised by VITO and was held in Genk, Belgium, on 23-25 November 2016.
Scientific abstracts include the contributions from the invited speakers, whose lectures provided scientific training for the Early Stage Researchers (ESRs), as well as presentations of the Individual Research Projects (IRPs) by the ESRs. Though not included in this report, complementary skills were also addressed in the workshop, which included a full day seminar on Project Management (1 ECTS) and a seminar on “The publication and reviewing process”.

This report summarizes the process of the recruitment of the INCITE Early Stage Researchers and presents the statistics of the received applications.

This report aims to provide insight into the progress made within INCITE during the first year of the Action. It summarises the general status at the end of year 1, the selection process and recruitment of the Early Stage Researchers (ESRs), the management of the consortium and the problems encountered so far.
The main activity of the consortium during the first year of INCITE has been the recruitment of the 14 ESRs that will be developing their Individual Research Projects (IRPs) within the framework of the project and will become experts in control and design aspects of the future electric network. The recruitment methodology was based on implementing an effective centralized recruitment strategy. The selection of the fellows took place between M2 and M7, while recruitment happened between M7 and M13, depending on the candidate’s availability, the administrative processes required in each case and issues arisen during the process. A Career Development Plan (CDP) has been set up in all cases between the ESR and the supervisor, ensuring the most suitable guidance and training possibilities for each ESR. These CDPs will be periodically revised and assessed, and will be used to monitor the progress in the fellows’ careers.
The organisational structure of the Action was defined in the Consortium Agreement -the Supervisory Board (SB) and the management committees, together with their roles and responsibilities- and nominations took place during the Kick-Off meeting.
All planned deliverables for the considered period have been produced in due course and the great majority of the milestones have been reached. Communication and outreach plans have also been put into action with the creation of the INCITE website and the social media profiles. These three aspects ensure that all communication and outreach events and activities reach the interested stakeholders, from the general public to a more specialised audience.

This deliverable summarises the Mid-term review meeting of INCITE, that took place at IREC premises in Barcelona, 13 and 14 November 2017.
